Vape Train Toffee Ice Cream

Our vape train toffee journey is coming to an end. I present “Toffee Ice Cream.” According to Vape Train, this is supposed to be a honeycomb toffee ice cream, or hokey pokey. Not coincidentally, this does taste a whole lot like a combination of their Vanilla Ice Cream and Honeycomb. Easy enough, right?

The toffee is broadly similar to the toffee experience with honeycomb. Basically crispy sugar. I feel like the errant buttery notes (that were not unpleasant, sure) don’t stick out as much in this application. I will say, it tastes a half shade darker here than in the standalone honeycomb concentrate… but I still wouldn’t call it burnt. Unlike the Hard Crack Toffee, the darker notes don’t have that odd coffee quality to them. The toffee feels pretty forward in the recipe, but that does allow some of that interesting crispier texture to come out.

The ice cream is pretty middle of the road. The vanilla isn’t overwhelming, it’s got some buttery instead of eggy notes, and a moderately full mouthfeel. The buttery notes from the honeycomb do make this taste a bit waxier than the Vanilla Ice Cream as a standalone concentrate. It won’t win any converts from the diketone maniacs intravenously feeding acetyl propinyl into their veins with TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream or Liquid Barn Vanilla Ice Cream, but it’s pretty convincing overall.

I tested this at 2 and 6%, and I’m definitely liking the 6% version quite a bit more. 2% feels kind of dark and wispy. 6% has quite a bit more body and substance to it. Some of that good trashy depth. I’d venture that the darker notes are going to be the limiting factor here, and at 6% I’m not getting that much head room. I’d shoot for around 5% a primary flavor. If you’re just accenting something, use a lower percentage. That’s the way these things work.

So, my main question after using this is whether it’s worth picking up instead of VT Honeycomb and VT Vanilla Ice Cream? I’m not sure there is a wholly convincing argument rather than sheer sloth. I feel like you would have some additional flexibility, but I have a website about flavor in vaping. I may not be the target audience here. Follow your heart.

Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 12 wrap 24g 3.5mm SS316 @.32 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.

Testing: Vape Train Toffee Ice Cream, 2 and 6%, 60/40 VG/PG base, Steeped forever.

Profile: Medium rich ice cream, with a moderate vanilla, more buttery than eggy notes. Doesn’t have a super heavy mouthfeel like TPA or LB. Prominent honeycomb toffee flavor, with some crispy dryness and a slightly darker caramel than the standalone.

Off-Flavors: Toffee can get a bit dark and astringent at higher percentages.

Throat Hit: Light, mostly. That honeycomb dryness kind of creeps up on you.

Percentage Recommendation: Not particularly strong. Primary or solo flavor at 5% with some sweetener. Accent percentage somewhere around 1-2%.
