Vape Train Chai Masala

chai-masala

Vape Train doesn’t give a description for this flavor, so I’m kind of flying blind here. I’m pretty sure this is just a chai spice mix, or if there is any kind of beverage base hiding in here it’s blown right out by the heavy spices.

As is its wont, the clove kind of dominates here. Any spice mix with clove tends to lead with clove, which is kind of a problem? I like clove flavors, and the clove here is a perfectly nice clove, but it tends to annihilate your palate. It’s not even a matter of flavor satiation, it’s more of a topical numbing and I’ve got about 3 minutes before I stop tasting most things. So there is clove, and it’s fairly strong. Warm, bakery clove right down the middle.

The spice mix around the edges suffers from the primacy of that clove. I do get some cardamom, which is usually the shorthand for a chai spice mix. What is here tastes largely like cardamom but it’s far back enough in the mix that it adds an odd earthiness on the back of the flavor rather than just ponying up it’s measure of spice. There’s some ginger hanging in around in here too. It’s a bit hard to pick up over the warmth of the clove, but you do get some distinct throaty ginger bite. I also pick up a fair amount of cinnamon in here as well. Warm bakery cinnamon, but not full on powdery and dry.

There’s a bit of sweetness here, but I’m missing either a distinct tea or any creamier notes. I’m more than willing to just call this a spice mix, heavy on the clove.

Percentages on something like this are going to be dependent on personal taste, but it’s always a better idea to start low and work up with your spice flavors. I’d probably start at .25% and stop short of 1%.

Ultimately, it’s a fine spice mix, but the heaviness of that clove is going to limit this quite a bit. I still advocate for building your own spice mix from the ground up. Fight me.

Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 12 wrap 24g 3.5mm SS316 @.32 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.

Testing: Vape Train Chai Masala, 1 and 4%, 60/40 VG/PG base, Steeped 33 days.

Profile: Chai spice, with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and clove. A fair amount of clove overwhelms most everything else.

Off-Flavors: If there is supposed to be anything past the spice, I’m not picking it up. Gets earthy, but maybe the wrong kind of earthy?

Throat Hit: Yeah, but it’s a spice.

Percentage Recommendation: Like with most spice flavors, start low and work up. Not going to kill you at .25% though.
