In New York they eat cheesecake with their pinkies up. This is classy but somehow suffers for that. A relatively restrained take on a full cheesecake profile with strawberry.
We tell each other things, right? Like we’re friends. As a friend, I need to tell you that I don’t taste strawberries so good. You know who does? Wayne Walker from DIYorDIE and he has a video so maybe watch that instead. This sentence is a link. This is a write up from a wretched strawberry mute. There are literally dozens of us.
The crust here is coming through the strongest for me here, at least at 4%. The actual crust seems really similar to the FA Graham Crust they just released, which is also really similar to the crust from TPA Cheesecake (Graham Crust). Not a whole lot of texture, blonder cook on the graham cracker, moderate vanilla and no additional spice. And it’s functional. Same gamma-octalactone (SCIENCE WORD) coconut-ish vibe as well.
The actual cheesecake here isn’t particularly rich. I’m getting a decent texture, but it feels a bit sweet and flat. There’s a nice bright vanilla to it, but I’m missing the heft and tartness of actual cheesecake. The filling is a bit more frosting-ish to me. Definitely not bad, but I’m missing the richness from TPA Cheesecake Graham Crust or CAP NY Cheesecake.
And as a proud strawberry mute I can sort of tell where the strawberry should be? Back of the hand, the strawberry tastes pretty similar to FA Juicy Strawberry. It’s not really a strawberry glaze though. When I vape it, I get the barest tingle of a strawberry. As always, YMMV.
Percentage-wise, the biggest difference seems to be the crust prominence. At 2%, I get a bit of crust. The filling seems fairly light and mostly like vanilla. At 4%, the crust is a bit more prominent. More importantly, nothing tastes bad at 4% so I’m thinking there is some head room here, especially if you’re going more for a one-shot type mix.
Is this a solution to your roll your cheesecake needs? I don’t really think so? All of the elements I’m expecting are there, but but it’s just too delicate. Even if you’re a normal strawberry taster, whatever strawberry they are using here shouldn’t be particularly aggressive and what I can taste here is fine. I’ve been in kind of a trashy phase with my mixing though, and this doesn’t taste all that trashy. Could you use this as a base for a cheesecake? Absolutely, but I’d want more cream, more crust, more fruit. I don’t know if there’s anything particularly compelling about this as one of the “bridge” flavors to build off. But it’s okay. Everything is literally okay with this.
Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 12 wrap 24g 3.5mm SS316 @.32 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: FlavourArt New York Cheesecake, 2 and 4%, 60/40 VG/PG base, Steeped 13 days.
Profile: Full cheesecake. Graham Crust, Light vanilla cheesecake filling, very FA type realistic-ish strawberry.
Off-Flavors: Coconut on the crust. Lacking some punch and richness. Strawberry seems a bit subtle.
Throat Hit: Light. Nothing major. Can get a bit dryer at higher percentages.
Percentage Recommendation: I know, I know, flavourart so everyone is going to be scared of a higher percentage, but I liked this a lot more at 4% than 2%. I’d guess around 4-5% if you want it to show up, 1-3% if you want to kind of want to sneak it in.
