A fairly rough take on rum. Sweeter and slightly boozy, but substantially off with a savory yet still watery off note? TL:DR, skip it and buy VT Light Rum. That one is tasty.
I purchased this as “Rum” from Bull City Flavors. I’m assuming it’s listed as “Gold Rum” on the Vape Train site. They have just the two rums, and this isn’t their “Light Rum.” So I’m assuming it’s the gold rum. If I’m wrong, ignore me more than usual.
So, follow me here. I think I figured out what this tastes like. Warm Miller Genuine Draft. Let’s build a case!
- There is some definite booze to this. It’s weird though, where the VT Light Rum has a pretty accurate cheap(ish) rum to heat to it, this seems to run more generic with a bit of a fruity, sour acetone thing on the tail end.
This is pretty solidly sweet. It could conceivably be a sort of generic rum sweetness, but it’s sweeter than something like a white rum. It also doesn’t really have the molasses vibe of a dark rum. But, along with that sort of generic, fruity booze note the sweetness here feels a lot more like your typical adjunct heavy American lager.
This is also funky and strangely savory going on here. ID10-T called it barbecue sauce, and I don’t necessarily disagree. In context though, it tastes just a little bit like skunky beer. Like a clear bottle that’s been sitting in a fridge for bit too long.
Long story short, this doesn’t taste a lot like rum. And I’m not sure I really want to vape warm, bad domestic beer. That booziness does technically come through in a mix and at lower percentages (like 1-2%) it isn’t too offensive. But it doesn’t really taste like a rum cocktail. Vape Train states this is a “a delightful rich golden rum with a distilled beverage flavour that would fit into a magnitude of e-liquid recipes. This rum flavour works well with desserts, bakery, creams, custard and other beverage & cocktail e-liquid flavours. Note this flavour is strong, so use it sparingly.” and suggests using this at “1-2% in a Mix – Standalone 2-5%.”
But yeah… just buy VT Light Rum.
Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual 12 wrap 24g 3.5mm SS316 @.32 ohms. 60w power, 450F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: Vape Train Rum, 3% and 7%, 60/40 VG/PG base, Steeped 12 days.
Profile: This totally tastes like warm, bad domestic ‘murican beer. Fight me. Acetone tinged generic booze heat and rice adjunct style sweetness.
Off-Flavors: Hard to pick this one out as any kind of rum.
Throat Hit: Light to moderate, but it’s a booze and it’s in the right places.
Percentage Recommendation: Use low for some generic booze around 1-2%.
Again, this assumes this is VT Gold Rum
